7 Laws to Success in 2010

According to Deepak Chopra these are the Seven Laws of Success.  I'm not going to suggest that one cannot reach success without these laws, but I will suggest thinking about them for a few minutes.  It's your life we're talking about after all, spend a few hours digesting this, it's worth it.  Plus regardless if you follow laws they do exist within nature, so why not take advantage of it.  

With a new year upon us the big hype that everyone speaks of, for at least the first few weeks of January, is how they will change.  Resolutions are created, goals are set, and actions begin to take place.  Knowing these laws to success will allow oneself to identify positive life occurrences that are manifested as a result of that knowledge.  Hopefully by you knowing and understanding these laws it will allow you to create a life full of zen, all starting with 2010. 

In this past year I've read and studied several teachings of Deepak Chopra.  For those of you that do not know him, I encourage you to find out quickly.  Deepak is a world-renowned authority in the field of mind-body healing, a best-selling author, and the founder of the Chopra Center for Wellbeing.

• Chopra is the recipient of the Einstein Award through Albert  Einstein College of Medicine in collaboration with the American Journal of Psychotherapy.

• Esquire Magazine designated him as one of the "Top 10 Motivational Speakers in the Country"

• In 1995, Chopra was the recipient of the Toastmasters "International Top Five Outstanding Speakers" award.

Here are his 7 Laws to Spiritual Success with my interpretations...

1. Law of Pure Potential

The first step to creating your success is to imagine it.  Here you allow your inner dreamer to manifest a dream.  Find the freedom to create whatever you want and don't have any limitations.  A business associate of mine reminded me recently of a quote that I love: "a goal not written down is just a wish."  What makes that quote fantastic is that it guides you to the second half of this law.  Not only do you have to imagine your success, but you need to write it down.  Writing down your goals will work wonders in regards to sending the proper message needed to achieve those goals.  Try to push yourself to vividly dream your vision.  Instead of simply stating that you wish to meet the man or woman of your dreams, write down exactly what he or she will be like; personality traits, family values, qualities and characteristics.  Let your mind run wild with zero limitations. 

Each triathlon or running event I compete in I'm constantly reminded of how limiting circumstances mean nothing when you passionately put your mind to something.  Challenged athletes are some of most energetic and positive people I've ever meet in my life.  They did not choose their disability, but have looked past it while vividly creating their dreams to their purest potential. 

I've mentioned creating or imagining your success several times here, but what really is SUCCESS?  Success for one person will be completely different than another.  "In spiritual terms success is the expansion of happiness.  It's forward progression in your life though the unfolding of your own vision." - Deepak Chopra

2.  Law of Giving and Receiving

Everything is constantly on the move in the universe.  It's the flow of energy and information.  Chopra states that "in your willingness to give and receive you keep the abundance of everything the universe has to offer circulating if your life."  If you just live your life giving back to others, you will find that your life will be much richer and fuller.  In addition to thinking about ways to improve your life, try to begin to think about ways to improve the lives of others as well. 

This takes time, but consciously ask yourself each day what you can do differently to change the world positively.  If it's picking up trash as you walk by it on the sidewalk or helping an elderly person carry their groceries to their car.  How about the next time that you're at a restaurant and you have left-overs, asking for the to-go container and then gifting that food to someone who may need it more than you.  If we each 'pay it forward' imagine what can be done. 

3.  Law of Karma 

The word karma means simply: action.  Actions have meaning beyond what we can see on the  surface. Every action generates a force of energy that returns to us in like kind.  So when you choose a course of action that brings happiness and success to others...then it's law that you shall receive like energy through a returning action.  Everything that is happening at this moment is a result of the choices you've made mentally in the past.  With that said the future would then be created by the choices we are making in every moment of our lives today. 

Everyone is more visible to one another because of social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.  Someone is always watching your every step (karma), so think twice before acting out in a way that won't propel you to your final destination.  Give your clients 10x the amount of services than what you ask for in return.  Be at peace with yourself and share your sincerity and kindness with everyone you meet. 

4.  Law of Least Effort

The law of least effort relates to the fact that nature takes the course of least action and no resistance.  In this technological day and age it seems as if it's a race for information.  Not to mention that information moves at cyber-speeds that make you think time travel is available at your local drug store.  Sometimes this fast paced life will send you into a feeling of chaos and disorder.  If things aren't happening the way you want it to, then instead of struggling against it, accept it.  Usually there's something in that struggle that is telling you to make a subtle shift in how you're approaching the situation.  At the same time I urge you to rid yourself of things that bring disharmony into your life. 

You may have friends or acquaintances who always seem to bring drama into the mix, or they're energy vampires.  This past year I consciously avoided certain people and situations that bring that disharmony, and the results were incredible.  You attract more of what you're looking for if you pass through life with the least effort. 

5.  Law of Intention and Desire

This law encourages you to take advantage of the first law, the law of pure potential by focusing your thoughts towards setting your intention on what it is that you seek most.  Before the start of a new year I create a dream board.  I simply cut out images or words that have meaning to what I'm setting my intentions on.  If it's running a marathon or creating a successful multi-million dollar startup company, I've attached those images to my dream board so I can set my intentions and desires on it daily.  If you haven't sat down to create your own goals for 2010, what are you waiting for?

6.  Law of Detachment

The Law of Detachment says that in order to successfully attract something, you must detach yourself from the outcome. If you act like life will be over if you don't receive your vision immediately you subconsciously begin to project negative emotions of fear, doubt, or craving into your life.  This negative vibe you send out actually attracts the opposite of your desire.  Every moment in life is allowed to be filled with excitement, adventure, and mystery. What's important here is that you allow yourself to embrace the moment.

You will experience a quantum leap when you can detach from the outcome and remain grounded in the wisdom of uncertainty.  Remember that every situation you have in life is the seed of an opportunity. 

7.  Law of Dharma

The seventh spiritual law of success is the law of dharma or purpose in life.  Dharma implies more than seeking work that you love. Chopra feels that Dharma is a shift in consciousness that begins by aligning yourself with your highest vision and then becoming the manifestation of that vision.   Self exploration is a task that will become second nature here.  Every person is a never-ending project of the universe.  By utilizing the previous six laws you'll begin to live out your dreams effortlessly.

Great blog Kevin. You don't have to be spiritual to appreciate the value of these guidelines; your interpretation here surely exemplifies that.

The point you make about the definition of success is a statement that carries a lot of weight. The word "success" for many is something that bears down and suffocates their desires, largely due to the implications of failure. By making the decision to define your own success, you are no longer bound to the societal connotations that the word may carry. Rather, you can focus on your own personal vision of it, whether that includes mutli-million dollar corporations or saving up for a well-deserved vacation.

These seven laws will serve as a great motivator throughout the course of the year. I'm sure I will refer back to them any time I need to realign.
